Denali Arts Council –  Call for Story Submissions

TALKEETNA, WE WANT YOUR STORIES!

We’re creating a brand new show celebrating the strange, hilarious, heartfelt, and wildly Alaskan moments that only happen here. And we want YOUR true(ish) stories, the ones you tell at the Fairview, on the river, in the Hangar, or around a late-night campfire.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• “Only in Alaska” incidents
• Bar tales, trail tales, river tales, winter tales 
• Local legends and personal misadventures
• Heartwarming, bizarre, chaotic, or just plain Talkeetna

No need to write a script — just tell the story in your own words.

If we decide to include your story in the show, we’ll reach out to you directly with details including a $100 honorarium as a thank-you.

File Requirements
• Attach your story as an editable document (Word, Google Doc link with editing access, etc.).
• The attached document must include your full name, email address, and phone number.
• The body of your email must also include your full name, email address, and phone number.

Deadline

April 15, 2026

We will contact selected writers in early summer 2026 regarding the honorarium.

Additional Details

• Pieces must be set in Talkeetna or the Upper Susitna Valley.
• Storytellers may submit multiple stories, and are encouraged to share this opportunity with friends.

About The Show

• “Strange Things Done in the Midnight Sun” will be a 45–50 minute rotating performance where some stories appear every night. All proceeds support the Denali Arts Council.
