2023 Talkeetna Ice Festival
Schedule of Events

Talkeetna is hosting our 2nd annual Talkeetna Ice Festival! This collaborative Festival starts Wednesday, February 1st and goes through Sunday, February 5th. Family friendly and mostly free!
Saturday, January 14th

Professional Ice Sculptor, Tommy Salami will guide you through the intricacies of ice art. You’ll carve a 10lb block of ice into a masterpiece that you get to take home! Ice and tools will be provided. This workshop will be outside at the Fairview Inn, so dress warmly. You must be 12 years old and older to participate.
Wednesday, February 1st
Calling all wannabe sculptors! Join us for our second annual Talkeetna Ice Carving Competition! The competition will be held in the downtown Village Park. Novice and expert carvers welcome. No experience necessary! February 1st we will have volunteers providing hot beverages and warm-up fires from 12pm to 10pm. Sculptures must be completed be 12pm on Sat. Feb. 4th. .

Thursday, February 2nd

Talkeetna Jeopardy is a production of Talkeetna Historical Society and part of the 2023 Talkeetna Ice Festival. This fun, family friendly show will be held at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar. Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 7pm. Spectate or compete! If you have a team of 3 interested in competing, sign up by calling the museum or email [email protected]
Friday, February 3rd

The Talkeetna Art Walk will be on Friday, February 3rd from 3pm to 6pm. There are 13 participating businesses featuring local artists. This free, family friendly event will have you enjoying beautiful art, interactive art installations and games, hot beverages and light snacks. Each location will have art walk passports available. Completed passports can be turned in at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar to be entered in a drawing. Detailed list of participating locations coming soon!
Fire and Ice Show
As part of the Talkeetna Ice Festival, Denali Arts Council presents the Fire and Ice Art Show. This is a community art show, and represents a variety of local artists. The show is on Friday, February 4th from 3pm to 6pm. Bring your completed art walk passport to the Hangar between 5 and 7pm to be entered into a drawing for great prizes from the participating businesses! At 6pm join us for a beautiful fire spinning performance outside!

Saturday, February 4th

Talkeetna Ice Festival
Bring your whole family to the Talkeetna Village Park from 12pm to 3pm for the Talkeetna Ice Festival! Walk around the park and explore the incredible ice sculptures created by your neighbors! There will be hot beverages, kid friendly activities, an ice carving demonstration and scavenger hunt. At 4pm rally around main-street for the first ever Talkeetna Dog Keg Pull and finish the evening at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar for a free, family friendly House Concert.
Talkeetna Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, February 4th from 12pm to 2pm is the Historical Talkeetna Scavenger Hunt! Family and friends join for a walking scavenger hunt based on Talkeetna’s history. This activity benefits the Talkeetna Chamber of Commerce.


Dog Keg Pull
Introducing the event that Talkeetna has always needed to alleviate the cold winter days – the first ever Talkeetna Dog Keg Pull! Rally downtown at 3pm and cheer for your favorite pooches as they pull kegs down main street! This is a Denali Education Center fundraiser and certain to be a good time for all!
Free House Concert!
Denali Arts Council presents Anchorage’s 7 Duo, with a full band lineup. This family friendly show at the Sheldon Community Arts Hangar will feature Michelle Eliza and Mike Miller. Michelle has the uncanny ability to combine powerhouse vocals with sweet tender tones to create a uniquely distinct sound. Mike plays just about anything, including folk, rock, funk, and (when he’s feeling classy) classical music. The Duo brings additional members to fill out the band for an evening of exceptional music. Doors open at 6:30pm and music starts at 7pm.

Sunday, February 5th

Denali Brewpub Brunch!
On Sunday, February 5th, the Denali Brewpub will be offering a biscuit and gravy brunch special with a Bloody Mary bar and mimosas, starting at 11am!
Poker Ski
If you are looking for a fun way to work work off the biscuits and gravy, you can join the Frozen Basil! The 12th annual Poker Ski starts at the Flying Squirrel at 12pm and ends at the Denali Brew Pub. This 7.5 mile ski is fun for all ages!


Souper Skate
Talkeetna Elementary School PTA is hosting a Souper Skate from 4pm to 6pm. Swing by with your whole family for an evening of skating at the Jack P McDonald Ice Rink at Talkeetna Elementary School. Homemade soups, baked goods, and hot drinks will be available for purchase.
